Introduction

Trident Offshore developed the TriCALMŪ, a novel CALM (Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring) to offer a low cost, low maintenance solution for fluid transfer operations.

The TriCALMŪ has been granted design approval by The American Bureau of Shipping.

The original patent for a replenishment buoy was filed in the early 1950's with the first traditional CALM buoy being built and installed in 1959. Until now, the basic CALM buoy design has changed very little, with few benefits being exploited in terms of 21st century, design, analysis and fabrication techniques.

The TriCALMŪ fully exploits modern design and analysis techniques in order to optimise structural integrity and hydrodynamic performance.

In summary, the TriCALMŪ has been designed to take advantage of modern design and analysis techniques, with the aim of providing a low cost fluid transfer solution which can be readily manufactured, requires minimal maintenance and meets end user design requirements.

Applications for the TriCALMŪ are not limited to the import / export of crude, but include the transfer of water and chemicals. The buoy can also be utilised as a mooring option for bulk offloading at power generation plants and as a control station for subsea developments.

The TriCALMŪ design has been verified by third parties and complies with major classification society and national requirements.
